Former Indiana Governor and Senator Evan Bayh and his twin sons, Beau and Nick, were welcomed into the Society of Indiana Pioneers during an event at the Meridian Hills Country Club on November 4, 2023. The Bayhs’ admission is due to their lineage to Andrew Evans Sr., an Indiana settler of 1824. The meeting also saw the election of seven members to the Board of Governors, presentation of the award for hands-on educational programs, and an award for graduate research.
The Society of Indiana Pioneers celebrates our state’s history and the people who made that history happen. Whether you have an ancestor from Indiana or are just interested in the settlement of the American Midwest, we welcome you to learn more about Indiana’s founders, search for your ancestors, and discuss our shared past.
We also invite you to take part in our programs, such as our online “Sip with SIP,” an upcoming pilgrimage, one of our intergenerational programs, or a casual rally. If you have friends or relatives who may be interested in being part of the Society, please consider giving them a membership or bringing them to one of our programs. Connecting with old (and new!) friends is an important appeal of our organization. You’ll find our members to be fun, challenging, and articulate. Our shared history and humanity are wonderful gifts for us to enjoy.
