The Summer 2024 Hoosier Heritage Pilgrimage was a “behind the scenes” look at the resources available through the Indiana Historical Society. The event was on Friday, June 21, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Indiana History Center in downtown Indianapolis.
We enjoyed private, special opportunities with experts to savor:
- The Remnant Trust Collection contains rare and treasured documents related to early Indiana and the founding of the nation. The special presentation will be by Spencer Ozburn, vice president at The Remnant Trust, a nonprofit that collects manuscripts and early published works related to individual liberty and human dignity.
- The Society of Indiana Pioneers collections. Our scrapbooks from the late 1930s and ‘40s as well as other artifacts housed at the History Center.
- Maps and documents related to the Old Northwest Territory.
- Exclusive “behind the scenes” looks at Indiana Historical Society exhibits. They included “Resist: Stories of Resistance” about Hoosiers who resisted the KKK during the 1920s, and an upcoming exhibit about the Interurbans in Indiana. Interurbans were electric rail cars that took passengers across the state for more than 30 years, beginning in the late 1890s. Indiana had one of the largest Interurban networks in the country.
