This fall’s Hoosier Heritage Fall Pilgrimage will feature special, exclusive opportunities at the home of the only U.S. President elected from Indiana. The pilgrimage will be on Friday, September 12, 2025, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
We’re arranged exclusive opportunities for those attending, beginning with a welcome from Charlie Hyde, President and CEO of the site. Highlights will include:
- A special, guided tour of the site’s gardens and grounds. The majority of flowers and plantings on the grounds have been chosen because of their popularity during the Victorian era when Harrison served as president. The tour will highlight a number of recent improvements made possible by the “Old Glory, New Vision” capital campaign. We’ll begin with a brief orientation in the Johnson-Floyd Family Presidential Commons and move to the Sarah Evans Barker Citizenship Plaza, the site of annual naturalization ceremonies and other civic events. A stroll along the Stan and Sandy Hurt Presidential Promenade will lead to the historic Harrison residence.
- A “behind the scenes” tour of the elegant Italianate home built in the 1870s for Benjamin and Caroline Scott Harrison and their family. Benjamin Harrison lived in the home both before and after his term as president from 1889 to 1893.
- Indiana history as seen through the site’s extensive collections. Jennifer Capps, Vice President of Curatorial Services, will highlight artifacts of statewide significance, including the original document naming William Henry Harrison (Benjamin’s grandfather) a justice of the peace in the Old Northwest Territory and a flag that flew over the Battle of Tippecanoe.
- A preview of “Treasures of the Harrison Collection”, an upcoming exhibit that will shine – literally. It will spotlight some of the most precious pieces not typically displayed, including artifacts ranging from a ceremonial badge in a Tiffany box to an inaugural invitation etched in gold.
The price is $25 per person, and guests are welcome. Space is limited to 40 participants, so make your reservation early! The reservation deadline is August 1, 2025.
Participants must provide their own transportation to The Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site, 1230 North Delaware Street in Indianapolis. (On-street parking is available in the historic Old Northside neighborhood.)
Please arrive promptly by 1:00 p.m and proceed directly to the Welcome Center located in the red carriage house behind the main residence of the historic Harrison family home.
